I would like to share with you about, who is this One God of the Bible.

Consider
Gen 1:26
26 Then God said, “And now we will make human beings; they will be like us and resemble us. …

Take a good look at the above scripture, God says that humans would be like “US”. It is important to note that it is GOD ALONE who makes man but check out the “US”… indicating a plural. Let me add some insight to this. Consider human beings. A human being is made up of the following.

1) A mind that is capable of decision making, this is different from the brain because the brain dies with the body but it is not so with the mind.
2) A body, this is our physical existence.
3) A soul/spirit, I am sure I do not have to convince you of this.

All these 3 are very different but work together as one being. If there were a person named “Santosh”, if I were to demoralize him then I wouldn’t say that I am just oppressing his mind I would be oppressing Santosh himself. If I were to slap him then I wouldn’t say that I am just oppressing his body I would be oppressing Santosh himself. If I were to lead him away from Christ then I wouldn’t say that I am just oppressing his soul I would be oppressing Santosh himself. So you see Santosh exist as uniquely as one being in mind body and spirit.

This human existence is an image of God (Gen 1:26), God exist as the Father (the mind that wills), the Son (the body which acts) and the Spirit (which ministers – 2 Corinthians 13:13) & these THREE come together and function uniquely as ONE BEING just as our mind, body & spirit that come together as one being.

Let us go through scripture to clarify the above statement.
Consider Col 1:16, Father creating through the Son (Father being the will & working through the Body of Christ)

Col 1:16 (“him” refers to Jesus)
For through him God created everything in heaven and on earth, the seen and the unseen things, including spiritual powers, lords, rulers, and authorities. God created the whole universe through him and for him.

Consider Col 1:20, Father reconciled creation through the Son (The Father wills and the Son actions)

Col 1:20 (“Son” refers to Son of God-Jesus)
Through the Son, then, God decided to bring the whole universe back to himself. God made peace through his Son’s blood on the cross and so brought back to himself all things, both on earth and in heaven.

Consider Heb 1:2, Father speaks to us through the Son (the will of the Father carried out through the Son)

Hebrews 1:2
but in these last days he has spoken to us through his Son. He is the one through whom God created the universe, the one whom God has chosen to possess all things at the end.

Consider Col 3:17, when we give thanks to the Father we do it through the Body that is of Christ. For example if you had the opportunity to stand before a great mind (Albert Einstein, Isaac Newton etc), then how would you show the reverence that you have for his mind / ideas, most people would shake hands and say “it is an honour to meet you”. You see we reverie the mind through the body and so the Bible teaches us something along the same lines of The Father (mind / will) and The Son (Body of Christ)

Colossians 3:17

17 Everything you do or say, then, should be done in the name of the Lord Jesus, as you give thanks through him to God the Father.

Also consider John 10:30, John 14:9 & Colossians 1:15.

John 10:30 (Jesus’ Words)

The Father and I are one.”

John 14:9 (Jesus’ Words- Jesus is the visible image of the Father just as the body is the visible image of the mind)

…Whoever has seen me has seen the Father….

Colossians 1:15

Christ is the visible likeness of the invisible God. He is the firstborn Son, superior to all created things.
As for the Spirit, it is because of the Spirit that God is present everywhere & at all times.

Psalms 139:7-12 (David to God)

7 Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?

8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.

9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,

10 even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.

11 If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,”

12 even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.

If God was just one then he could only know what is happening everywhere through his created beings (angels and stuff) and that would mean that this god is dependent on his creation, implying he is not truly God.

Here is some scripture to support Father Son and Spirit work together as One being.

John 14:26 (Jesus’ words)
The Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and make you remember all that I have told you.

John 15:26 (Jesus’ words)
26 “The Helper will come the Spirit, who reveals the truth about God and who comes from the Father. I will send him to you from the Father, and he will speak about me.

Even consider

Genesis 11:5-9 (Tower of Babylon)
5 Then the Lord came down to see the city and the tower which those men had built, 6 and he said, “Now then, these are all one people and they speak one language; this is just the beginning of what they are going to do. Soon they will be able to do anything they want! 7 Let us go down and mix up their language so that they will not understand one another.” 8 So the Lord scattered them all over the earth, and they stopped building the city. 9 The city was called Babylon, because there the Lord mixed up the language of all the people, and from there he scattered them all over the earth.

Notice here to God refers to Himself as “us” in verse 7. He is not referring to any angels or any other creations because it does not mention that the “Lord spoke to whoever” or the “Lord commanded whoever”. The Lord alone came down; verse 5 does not state the company of any creation with my Lord. So God refers to Himself as plural & what is associated with it? Mixed up languages, who in the New Testament is associated with strange languages? It is the Holy Spirit.

Acts 19:6 (Also check Acts 2)
Paul placed his hands on them, and the Holy Spirit came upon them; they spoke in strange tongues and also proclaimed God’s message.

Consider
John 16:7 (Jesus’ words)
But I am telling you the truth: it is better for you that I go away, because if I do not go, the Helper will not come to you. But if I do go away, then I will send him to you.

From John 14:26 & John 15:26 mentioned above we can see that the Helper in John 16:7 is the Holy Spirit. However, Biblically “Helper” refers to God Himself because the Biblical God is a jealous God and He wants His people to trust & take help from only Him.

Let’s take a look at few scriptures that will show us how seriously God takes issues when we trust in something other than Him.

Deuteronomy 28:52 (Old Testament)

52 They will attack every town in the land that the Lord your God is giving you, and the high, fortified walls in which you trust will fall.

Isaiah 30:2-3 (Old Testament)

2 They go to Egypt for help without asking for my advice. They want Egypt to protect them, so they put their trust in Egypt’s king. 3 But the king will be powerless to help them, and Egypt’s protection will end in disaster.

Psalm 49:13-14 (Old Testament)

13 See what happens to those who trust in themselves,

the fate of those who are satisfied with their wealth —

14 they are doomed to die like sheep,

and Death will be their shepherd.

Proverbs 3:5

5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Never rely on what you think you know.

Note: God however does use His creation according to His purpose. You may say a friend helped you but in truth it was God who helped you because it was God who made your friend capable to help you (Isaiah 10:5-15).

Also consider, Isaiah 40:31

But those who trust in the Lord for help will find their strength renewed. They will rise on wings like eagles; they will run and not get weary; they will walk and not grow weak.
Coming back, here is some scripture showing God alone to be the Biblical “Helper”.

Psalm 54:4
But God is my helper. The Lord is my defender.

Heb 13:6
Let us be bold, then, and say: “The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid. What can anyone do to me?”

Well since I have shown you scripture showing God as a Helper, you may take it as the Father alone to be the Helper but I have also shown that the Spirit is also a Helper. Even Jesus referred to Himself as a Helper

John 14:16 (Jesus’ says)
I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, who will stay with you for ever.

Another helper mentioned above (John 14:6), implying that Jesus Himself is a Helper. Please note that no prophet, angel or any other creation has ever Biblically referred to himself as a helper. Ask your self, does God need any help to function? No, He is Self Sufficient, Almighty & Sovereign. So who can Biblically refer to Himself as a Helper? The answer is God Himself. The God of Abraham, Isaac & Jacob, who exist as uniquely as One in the Father Son & Holy Spirit.

Isaiah 64:4 (Prophet Isaiah – Old Testament)

No one has ever seen or heard of a God like you, who does such deeds for those who put their hope in him.

You may also consider 1 John 5:7 & Matthew 28:19 for more clarification on the topic of God existing as One in the Father Son and Holy Spirit.

1 John 5:7-8 (Apostle John writes to early Christ to encourage fellowship [brotherhood])

7 For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one. 8 And there are three that bear witness on earth: the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree as one.

Note:

  1. It is the Lord alone who is Biblically referred to as the witness in heaven.

Judges 11:10

They replied, “We agree. The Lord is our witness.”

Jeremiah 23:23-25 (how God bears witness)

23 “I am a God who is everywhere and not in one place only. 24 No one can hide where I cannot see him. Do you not know that I am everywhere in heaven and on earth? 25 I know what those prophets have said who speak lies in my name and claim that I have given them my messages in their dreams.

  1. For information regarding Jesus being refereed to as the Word, please read the article: “Word of God” is Jesus Himself.
  1. The Water and Blood in 1John5:8 refers to Jesus again (1John5:6), because it was Jesus and His Spirit who came to earth to carry out the Father’s Salvation plan for man.

1John5:6

Jesus Christ is the one who came with the water of his baptism and the blood of his death. He came not only with the water, but with both the water and the blood. And the Spirit himself testifies that this is true, because the Spirit is truth.

Matthew 28:19 (Jesus Words as to His disciples after His resurrection)

19 Go, then, to all peoples everywhere and make them my disciples: baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,

Note: Baptism is Biblical declaration of faith by a person in His God, Who exists as uniquely One in the Father Son and Holy Spirit. God is clearly shown here as the Father Son and Holy Spirit
