Encouraging daddies in the holy fear of God!

Psalms 34
11 Come, you children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD.

Psalms 103
13 Just as a father has compassion on his children, So the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him.

If we were to look the role of a father from the Bible, we see it has to do with leading his children to trust in God and fear Him. This fear the Bible teaches us is holy fear, a reverential fear by which a person understands his/her life is accountable to God and he/she is therefore moved to find their rest in Christ from all anxiety while fervently pursuing the righteousness of God in their lives, and in the families they head and raise.

Proverbs 9
10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

Proverbs 16
16 How much better it is to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding is to be chosen above silver.

This world compels parents today to give their children a good education to do well in life. Yes, a good education is a must for your children but as Jesus says in Mat 4:4… the believer does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. Therefore, I would urge and encourage you brethren, to instill in your children the fear of God by teaching it to them and living it out by example. I have come across many parents, who say they have given all they could give to their children but their children are useless. Having known these parents of theirs over time I have noticed that these parents have been poor examples of bearing the likeness of Christ, which is the very nature of God as revealed in the Moral Law. These parents fed their children with only material good while living out their lives without the fear of God. Hence, Luke 6:38, comes into play and these parents get a taste of the indifference they showed God, from their own children.

John 9
31 We know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is God-fearing and does His will, He hears him.

Remember Daddies, when you teach your children the fear of God, you are helping them mature in spirit so that they may grow from relying on you to relying on the Lord. From the Bible, we ought to understand that there are two types of fear: holy fear & unholy fear. Unholy fear comes from the fear of punishment because deep within a person feels the oncoming of God’s good justice, which he/she must escape out of their dearness for nothing more than their own lives. Holy fear on the other hand comes from being trained in godly discipline (from which we get the word Disciple), where we who were once sinners and now saved in Christ are taught how to man up before the ungodly in standing up for the righteousness of God (Mat 10:28 & 13:45-46).

So, it is we see that the role of any good father, is to teach his children the holy fear of God, that in His time Christ may welcome you into His abode saying… well done good and faithful servant and you may rest in peace knowing, your children shall keep up the good fight and be conduits of Jesus’s blessing upon the earth.

Be still… acknowledge God in your trials!

Psalm 46:10
“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”

Philippians 4:5-7
Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand;
do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

If we were to look at the above verses, we understand they are both saying the same thing. Very often people are misunderstood, which affects the actions of their peers in that given environment. For people who believe their identity is grounded in what people generally perceive of them, this is an impossible situation to deal with. The world in their unbelief are blind to God and so the approval they seek, is of the people around them in everything they do but you know the expression of what it is to be at the mercy of people. It is very different from being at mercy of God, availed in the saving love of Jesus Christ.

1Peter 5:6-7
Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you,
casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.

If we were to look at 1Peter 5:9 in the light of Psalm 119:71, 75; we would see that there is such a thing as righteous suffering, which God brings upon us for two main reasons. The first reason being that these afflictions serve as furnace experiences in the lives on the believer, burning out the godless dross in his/her mind and heart. The second reason is: God is worth every righteous striving because that earnest striving in lives of believers is the worship God seeks of those whom He has redeemed in Christ. For those who receive this new birth in the Spirit of Jesus (John 3:3), go through an ennobling process (James 2:5) under the mighty hand of the Triune God. Knowing that all creation glorifies God, if we take a look at how noble metals are purified, we understand how affliction burns out the dross from our hearts and minds in refining us in His own image.

Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Romans 8:1, 28, 31
There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

We ought to remember that Salvation is God saving us from himself; Satan may be an agent of death but that is only because he has fathered our sin from the fall (Gen3:1-6). The wages of sin is death but as much as justice is a perfect attribute of God, so is His love, and it is in His perfect love that God offered us His own Son as an atonement for our sins. In doing so, God sent His Son to be born of virgin and take on the complete nature of man and thus become that unblemished sacrifice which substituted us in receiving the full onslaught of His Father’s wrath poured out for all sin, thus paying the full wages of sins for all of His sheep. To view Almighty God and Satan as two opponents in a boxing ring, is a lie which Satan has only succeeded in infiltrating the minds of those who are indifferent to God and those who are a standard to themselves (Proverbs 26:12). The fall has made such a worldview natural for every son/daughter of Adam, it is no wonder that the Salvation God presents us in Jesus Christ, is a twofold propitiation; the first being, the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus fully satisfies/propitiates the wrath of God poured out for all our sins, & the second being, the Spirit of Christ propitiates/overcomes the ungodly rebellion in hearts and mind of those God has called to Himself according to His will.

Isaiah 40:30-31
Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted;
but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

John 14: 1, 6 (Jesus says)
“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

So, the next time you are troubled remember: the first thing you must have in place is how you stand in that moment before God. If you erred in the sight of God, set that straight from the knowledge of God revealed to you in scripture and wait on Him then to deliver you from that trial, which He shall do so only in His time and from the mercy you have availed before Him in Jesus Christ alone. Remember once you are set right in the sight of God, there is no need for any anxious striving to justify yourself in the sight of self-righteous men. Instead you ought to wait on God silently, to deliver you in that trying moment, which you are given to do while persevering in the righteousness of God as revealed in the Holy Bible. As you do this, the peace of God that surpasses all understanding shall guard your hearts and minds in Jesus Christ.

The future is brighter because God is good!

If there were two essential things the Bible teaches about Christ reigning as King, it is that God is sovereign and God is good. How can we ever find hope in the Gospel if these two things were not in place? The Church is the bride of Christ, who is so ardently in love with Him and believes so passionately in His provision that she gives a damn about the low opinion the world has about God and His righteousness. However, from the beginning we have had some anti-social elements in the Church who chose to ravage the Church of her faith in God concerning her provision and future. Take a look at the scripture presented below and you will know that this is not about Satan being in the blue corner and Jesus being in the red corner of a boxing ring. In fact it’s just that the wicked are put in place to serve the purposes of God.

Prov 16:4
The LORD has made everything for its own purpose, Even the wicked for the day of evil.

John 17:12 (the Lord Jesus referring to Judas)
While I was with them, I was keeping them in Your name which You have given Me; and I guarded them and not one of them perished but the son of perdition, so that the Scripture would be fulfilled.

2 Cor 12:7 (Paul referring to the thorn in his side)
Because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, for this reason, to keep me from exalting myself, there was given me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me–to keep me from exalting myself!

When I think about the premillennialists with their escapist eschatology and the amillennialists with their defeatist eschatology, I wonder what hope exactly do these fools draw from the Gospel. The premillennialist with his escapist worldview has devised the rapture, while the amillennialists is more convinced that wickedness is on the rise just as much as the righteousness of God is. The two seem to display a dualism concerning what they believe to be sovereignty of God in Salvation because when it comes eschatology, the amillennialists as well as the premillennialists seem to have thrown the sovereignty of God out of the window. Let’s take a look of the verse below, concerning how Israel got her name. If you would like me to leave you with some insight, the Old Testament Church i.e. Israel means she perseveres with God and with men by the power of Christ and prevailes.

Gen 32
24 Then Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him until daybreak.
25 When he saw that he had not prevailed against him, he touched the socket of his thigh; so the socket of Jacob’s thigh was dislocated while he wrestled with him.
26 Then he said, “Let me go, for the dawn is breaking.” But he said, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.”
27 So he said to him, “What is your name?” And he said, “Jacob.”
28 He said, “Your name shall no longer be Jacob, but Israel; for you have striven with God and with men and have prevailed.”

It was the same in the case of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. They stood for the righteousness of God and faced execution by way of the fiery furnace but as this affliction was levied on them by God it was God Himself who was sustaining them in that fiery trial. Besides glorifying the good deserving justice of God, another purpose the wicked serve, even Satan for that matter, is being a sanctifying instrument of God in the lives of the Godly. This is what being Israel is all about, that we who belong to Christ are sanctified in the world, according the will and purpose of God. Such is the Sovereignty of God in all things including salvation.

Exodus 31:13
“But as for you, speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘You shall surely observe My sabbaths; for this is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I am the LORD who sanctifies you.

Daniel 3
16 Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to give you an answer concerning this matter.
17 “If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the furnace of blazing fire; and He will deliver us out of your hand, O king.
18 “But even if He does not, let it be known to you, O king, that we are not going to serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.”

A look at Hab 2:14, Is 11:1-10 & Heb 8:11 helps us understand that we are living in the new covenant of Christ figurative thousand-year reign. A reign in which God will slowly but steadily usher in His peace in reconciling all creation to Himself. For some reason, I believe the premillennialists and the amillennialists share the world’s purview very much on the progress of righteousness in the world. Simply because I believe they are no different from the world is seeing events from the perspective of their own interest as over seeing it from the perspective of scripture. Take the ISIS for instance, CNN reported in February that the ISIS had killed over 2000 people and injured thousands more but what about killing of the innocent unborn children? According to the WHO, every year there are about 40-50 million abortions around the world. How is that we can turn a blind eye to these murders and talk so ecstatically about terrorism?

Ezek 37 (in the light of Jn 3:6-7, 16-18)
11 Then He said to me, “Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel; behold, they say, ‘Our bones are dried up and our hope has perished. We are completely cut off.’
12 “Therefore prophesy and say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD, “Behold, I will open your graves and cause you to come up out of your graves, My people; and I will bring you into the land of Israel.
13 “Then you will know that I am the LORD, when I have opened your graves and caused you to come up out of your graves, My people.
14 “I will put My Spirit within you and you will come to life, and I will place you on your own land. Then you will know that I, the LORD, have spoken and done it,” declares the LORD.'”

Islam and its terror is nothing more than a chastening rod which God is using to wake us up from our slumber. Just like in Old Testament Israel, that when they were disobedient, he brought other nations to rule over them that they may learn a lesson (Is 10:1-20). The same thing is happening now but today owing to our ignorance of the Bible, we want to believe God is a God of love, so that we could all continue living as please i.e. till we are thrown into hell I suppose.

Dietary Laws and their Significance!

Quite often I have been asked this question concerning what is my stand when it comes to Dietary Laws as given in the Bible. These questions come to me from Christians and non-Christians alike, which mostly arises from the drama Islam raises on pork. Now let’s take a look at what the Bible says concerning the dietary laws from the Old Testament.

Lev 11
1 The LORD spoke again to Moses and to Aaron, saying to them,
2 “Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘These are the creatures which you may eat from all the animals that are on the earth.
3 ‘Whatever divides a hoof, thus making split hoofs, and chews the cud, among the animals, that you may eat.
4 ‘Nevertheless, you are not to eat of these, among those which chew the cud, or among those which divide the hoof: the camel, for though it chews cud, it does not divide the hoof, it is unclean to you.

9 ‘These you may eat, whatever is in the water: all that have fins and scales, those in the water, in the seas or in the rivers, you may eat.
10 ‘But whatever is in the seas and in the rivers that does not have fins and scales among all the teeming life of the water, and among all the living creatures that are in the water, they are detestable things to you,

We ought to understand that the clean and unclean context of animals, which people could eat or not eat came into being because animals were sacrificed in the Old Testament, a sacrifice which pointed to the redeeming sacrifice of Jesus (Heb10:1), the Lamb of God who takes away our sins (Jn1:29). When we understand, Jesus did not die for the salvation of animals but for the salvation of mankind, we learn that the clean and unclean context is what applies to men/women. Take a look at what determines clean and unclean in these animals and you shall notice that they are nothing but spiritual metaphors which indicate how an individual stands in the eyes of God.

Deut 8:3
…that He might make you understand that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the LORD.

Psalm 1:1-2
How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night.

Now consider the animal that chews its cud, which biologically is referred to as rumination, where the plant based food the animal eats goes into the rumen where it ferments through microbial action. This is then regurgitated as cud and chewed to further break down the food and access the nutrients. When it comes to the split hoof, its almost finger-like dexterity allows animals like wild sheep and mountain goats better traction in their hazardous environment. So, in the light of the fact that everything in creation glorifies God, the Bible teaches us that these indications metaphorically distinguish the godly from the ungodly. The animal that chews its cud describes one who meditates on God’s word and applies it to his/her life which he/she contemplates over (Psalm1:2) because the Word of God is that wholesome food (Deut8:3) which sustains this person spiritually, physically and mentally. As for the animals with divided hoofs, it symbolizes one who traverses through life knowing Jesus is the only dividing line that matters between men (Gen3:15) and so the godly do not build trusting relationships with the ungodly (Psalm1:1), knowing fully well that the lives of the ungodly revolve around serving only themselves and hence there can never be any sincere fellowship between the godly and the ungodly (2Cor6:14). So, metaphorically speaking the divided hoof teaches us that we are to love our neighbour in their times of need while maintaining a safe emotional distance from them but reserving intimate fellowship and communion with only those who serve the Lord Jesus Christ.

Psalms 119
118 You have rejected all those who wander from Your statutes, For their deceitfulness is useless.

133 Establish my footsteps in Your word, And do not let any iniquity have dominion over me.

James 1
27 Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

When it comes to sea creatures in Lev11:9-10 mentioned above, it is the same thing. The fins are what these creatures use to stay upright, move forward, stop and change direction while the scales not only protects them like armour but allows the fish a side-to-side swimming motion. This in itself symbolizes a person who receives God’s word and directs his life by it as life’s thumb rule (Psalm119:133), just like the animal that chews the cud while the scales speak of the guard the godly have to be on, in keeping themselves unstained by the world (James1:27), which meets the same purpose as conveyed by animals with divided hoofs.

2Cor 6
14 Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness?
15 Or what harmony has Christ with Belial, or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever?
16 Or what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; just as God said, “I will dwell in them and walk among them; And I will be their God, and they shall be My people.

When you understand, what the Bible refers to as the unbeliever being spiritually dead, sold by his representative Adam into sin (1Cor15:21), we learn the context of what it is not to touch something unclean as sited in 2Cor6:17 and Lev11:8. When you understand the context of clean and unclean as applying to people, then Peter’s vision at Joppa which occurs only moments before the Gentiles are preached the good news should come as no surprise to you. Yes, there is a saying out there that says “you are what you eat” but that is said in the context of eating healthy food to keep you healthy. In context of food however eating unclean animals doesn’t make you immoral/unclean and Jesus clears that in Mk7:14-23, when He says that it is what is in your heart that makes you unclean and not what you eat.

Col 2
20 If you have died with Christ to the elementary principles of the world, why, as if you were living in the world, do you submit yourself to decrees, such as,
21 “Do not handle, do not taste, do not touch!”
22 (which all refer to things destined to perish with use)–in accordance with the commandments and teachings of men?
23 These are matters which have, to be sure, the appearance of wisdom in self-made religion and self-abasement and severe treatment of the body, but are of no value against fleshly indulgence.

To conclude, I must clear the dividing line between the ungodly and the godly. There is this popular notion of many inclusive humanists who believe that they have no reason to be denied the eternal paradise of heaven after they die, which is nowhere in their minds close to spending eternity with God as the Bible teaches about heaven, as these are somehow convinced of their self-righteousness, having never participated in any serious crime. The truth however is their depraved unbelieving hearts from which comes their character, is reason enough for them to burn in hell and deserve it but the mercies of God are presented to us in Jesus Christ, who cleanses His sheep of Adam’s disobedience and gives us a new nature which is His own, so that when we stand before God in all His holiness and majesty, what He sees in us is His own Son in whose image we are made and conform to, in being restored to God (Rom8:28-30), to this effect we are adopted into His family as God’s children.

Revelation 7 (Vision of the Apostle John)
9 After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could count, from every nation and all tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, and palm branches were in their hands;
10 and they cry out with a loud voice, saying, “Salvation to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.”
11 And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures; and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God,
12 saying, “Amen, blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might, be to our God forever and ever. Amen.”
13 Then one of the elders answered, saying to me, “These who are clothed in the white robes, who are they, and where have they come from?”
14 I said to him, “My lord, you know.” And he said to me, “These are the ones who come out of the great tribulation, and they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

The Unbiblical Nature of the Lenten Season!

Growing up as a Roman Catholic, I always felt that Lent was a time for us to be religious. However, I as I grew up and began to study the Bible I learnt that the concept of lent is nowhere in the Bible. Roman Catholic priest happen to go around advising people on abstinence to show God some love and devotion in this season with an abstinence that makes a difference in their lives, like if they usually crave for non-vegetarian food they should abstain from it and if they are habitual smokers or drinkers then they should abstain from that too. Now let’s see what the Bible has to say about such religiosity.

Colossians 2
20 If you have died with Christ to the elementary principles of the world, why, as if you were living in the world, do you submit yourself to decrees, such as,
21 “Do not handle, do not taste, do not touch!”
22 (which all refer to things destined to perish with use)–in accordance with the commandments and teachings of men?
23 These are matters which have, to be sure, the appearance of wisdom in self-made religion and self-abasement and severe treatment of the body, but are of no value against fleshly indulgence.

Speaking of severe treatment on the body in verse 23, I am reminded of the extreme practices on the supposedly lenten Good Friday by Roman Catholics in the Philippines, whose religious zeal doesn’t appear to come from the Bible but from copying Muslims during Muharram, whose ungodly rebellion promotes the fear of men in religion as over the fear of God. However, it is typical for Christians who do not know their Bible to go aping non-Christians in their practice of Christianity. My guess then is as good as yours concerning the future of the lenten season that it may someday become a food festival as it is with the case of the Islamic season of fasting called Ramadan, where the sale of food and grocery items go up by about 71%.

Mat 17
5 While he was still speaking, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice out of the cloud said, “This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased; listen to Him!”

John 8 (Jesus’ word)
23 And He was saying to them, “You are from below, I am from above; you are of this world, I am not of this world.
24 “Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.”

If we are to acquaint ourselves with what pleases God, we should understand that it more to do with morality than it has to do with anything else. Take a look at the 10 Commandments from Exo 20:3-17 in the light of what Jesus says in Mat 22:36-40, notice that the first four commandments speak of the believer’s primary duty to love God and then the other six is his duty towards those in his environment. There is nothing here about what you must not eat or drink, it’s all about how you think, speak and act because that show the condition of your rebellious heart before God (Lk 6:43-48). The reason God requires you to believe in His Son Jesus is because of the redeeming power that is made available in Him to turn you from your sins to the Triune God Himself.

Luke 6 (Jesus’ word)
43 “For there is no good tree which produces bad fruit, nor, on the other hand, a bad tree which produces good fruit.
44 “For each tree is known by its own fruit. For men do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they pick grapes from a briar bush.
45 “The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth what is good; and the evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth what is evil; for his mouth speaks from that which fills his heart.
46 “Why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?
47 “Everyone who comes to Me and hears My words and acts on them, I will show you whom he is like:
48 he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid a foundation on the rock; and when a flood occurred, the torrent burst against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built.

What Lent is about according to the Catholic Education Resource Centre
“Most importantly, Jesus fasted and prayed for “40 days and 40 nights” in the desert before He began His public ministry (Mt 4:2).”

To every Catholic I know and have been brought up with, believes that Lent observes the 40 days of Jesus fasting but the Catholic Education Resource Centre neither corrects this stand in the Church nor does it document this stand, which it does so only to play safe. For many Roman Catholics, it seems that Jesus’ 40 days of fasting culminated with His death and resurrection but this stand is absurd because reading Mat 3:13 to 4:20 in the context of John 1:19-42 shows that Jesus’ 40 days of fasting was the very initiation of His ministry and so it is absurd to have the Last Supper during such a Lenten season when Jesus hadn’t any disciples during this time. However, if you were to take a look at what the Catholic Education Resource Centre has to say, it seems they are well aware of this fact but the people’s ignorance plays well in their favour during this season and so this touch topic is best swept under the carpet. History has seen the Roman Catholic Church not only deny people access to the Bible but also persecute and slander people as heretics, people like William Tyndale who made the Bible accessible to the people.

Decree of the Council of Toulouse (1229 C.E.): “We prohibit also that the laity should be permitted to have the books of the Old or New Testament; but we most strictly forbid their having any translation of these books.”

Fate of William Tyndale in 1536 C.E.: William Tyndale was burned at the stake for translating the Bible into English. History has it that the Church forbid owning or reading the Bible to control and restrict the teachings and to enhance their own power and importance.

John 15
19 “If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, because of this the world hates you.

To conclude, I would like to say that there is no such thing in Christianity as a season of pleasing God or a season of obedience to God for that matter because when one is born again as mentioned in Jn 3:3, his nature towards sin is overcome by the saving power of Christ to a nature of obedience unto God. When I speak of nature, I mean the effect of Christ’ atonement in this person’s life is for real and not a seasonal show of trifle religiosity, owing to one’s sloth or ignorance of the Bible. Remember, we were made in the image of God i.e. we shared in the very nature of God before the fall of Adam and the redeeming power of Christ restores this nature to us in Salvation.

Peace, on whose terms?

Isaiah 2
2 Now it will come about that in the last days The Mountain of the house of the LORD Will be established as the chief of the mountains, and will be raised above the hills; and all the nations will stream to it.
3 And many peoples will come and say, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; That He may teach us concerning His ways And that we may walk in His paths.” For the law will go forth from Zion and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
4 And He will judge between the nations, and will render decisions for many peoples; and they will hammer their swords into ploughshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, and never again will they learn war.
5 Come, house of Jacob, and let us walk in the light of the LORD.

There is a lot of meaning in the above verses, which I would like to exposit for you as your spiritual manna (Exo 16:15/Luke 22:19), out of my love for the Lord Jesus (John 21:15-17). Verse 2 needs to be understood in the context of Dan 2:45 & Heb 8:10-11, which in the light of Col 1:16-20 says that God is going to increase His righteousness upon the earth with time, till all the earth is filled with the knowledge of God (Hab 2:14) and unbelief will be an insignificant minority. Verse 3 needs to be looked at in the context of Rev 22:17 and Mat 28:18-20, which speaks about the Holy Spirit calling the people to hear the preaching and the teaching of the Gospel. Speaking about Law, we ought to understand that there are three aspects of Law i.e. Judicial Law, Ceremonial Law and Moral Law. The Judicial Law is what is given the State to maintain Law and Order in society, while the Ceremonial Law was given the Old Testament Church as pointing to the redemptive work of Christ, while the Moral Law is the standard given every believer to live by. Today, very few Churches have such an understanding of Law, for most Churches in holding to Christ and rightfully doing away with the Ceremonial Law (Heb 10:1-7), they unwittingly reject the Moral Law and the authority of the State concerning the Judicial Law as well, owing to their poor understanding of the Bible. The Moral Law is the very character of God, as described in Psalm 119, which goes from Alef to Tav (Old Testament Hebrew)… like the Alpha and the Omega (New Testament Greek) we are familiar with in ascribing to the Lord Jesus (Rev 1:8). When the Law goes forth in verse 3 i.e. God’s word goes forth from Zion, we know that those who receive Jesus as Lord and Saviour shall glorify His grace and mercy (John 3:16) but those who refuse Him shall glorify His wrath and justice (John 3:18/Rom 2:12) because God’s Word shall not return to Him void (Isaiah 55:11). Every believer taken from the family of Adam and grafted to the Church, inherits this nature of God in being conformed to the likeness of Jesus (Rom 8:29). This is the very purpose of every human being, who are all made in the image of God, broken in Adam but restored to all godly fullness in the Lord Jesus Christ. It is from here we understand that if there is to be peace in the world, it can only be on God’s terms and never our own but this peace is what God is going to bring about by His might because nothing in creation exist which does not serve His righteous purpose and so as the Church is given to walk by faith and not mere sight (2Cor 5:7), we learn from verse 5 to walk in the light of His promise concerning Salvation because Salvation is not based on merits of depraved men (Psalm 49:7-15) but on the saving merits of the righteous Jesus Christ (Rev 5:7-12).

Psalms 37
4 Delight yourself in the LORD; And He will give you the desires of your heart.

Mat 5
9 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.

John 1 (in reference to Jesus)
12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name,
13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.

Concerning our adoption into the family of God, we understand from scripture that this is according to the will of God. If believing in the Lord Jesus Christ was something established purely on a person’s free will then that person would never be a new creation in Christ (2Cor 5:17) and could never conform to the likeness of Christ nature unless there is a complete change in the orientation of his/her desires, where a person no longer delights in pleasing himself/herself but his/her delight is in the Lord, which is what being born from above is all about (John 3:3). If we understand the implications of the fall of Adam and Original Sin, we then recognize that the reason each person is self-serving naturally from birth is because each person is a law to themselves. Thankfully the Sovereign will of God presides over our free will and so we have institutions like the State in place, which is given to function by the Judicial Law and this is what keeps unbelievers in check from the fear of being apprehended by the Law but as for the believer, he/she is given the very Moral law of God as his/her own nature/character and so he has nothing to fear from the Judicial Law because unlike the world fallen in Adam (1Tim 1:8-9), his/her desire is not sin in pleasing of self at all costs but his/her desire is God in exercising the righteousness of God.

Mat 10
34 “Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.
35 “For I came to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law;
36 and a man’s enemies will be the members of his household.
37 “He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.
38 “And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.
39 “He who has found his life will lose it, and he who has lost his life for My sake will find it.

The Moral Law as taught to us in Exodus 20:1-17 and Mat 22:36-40 says we ought to love God first and second love our neighbour at par with ourselves. However, the citizens of the world in their unbelief do not see God as first but themselves and so everything else and every other person is nothing more than the means they use to serve themselves. We ought to understand that people in their unbelief are incapacitated from finding security in God, instead people find security in the masses and so they are ok doing wrong and believing in a bunch of lies as long as they have many people with them doing the same thing. These fools are not accountable to God, they are unreasonably accountable to only themselves and that is why they live as they please. Take the instance of the Parable of the Vine-growers (Mark 12:1-12), the defaulting tenants here are the unbelievers who go about life with their poor stewardship over the earth, as coming from their refusal of God and when the real stewards show up these defaulting tenants give in to their destructive nature and act maliciously towards the adopted sons of God who are the real heirs of the earth, because Adam’s failed stewardship upon the earth is restored to only those who are in Christ.

John 15
18 “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. 19 If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. 20 Remember what I told you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. 21 They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the one who sent me. 22 If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin.

As much as a thief hates being called a thief and a homosexual likes being called gay, we ought to understand that the world hates the truth about themselves but will God cease to exist so as to allow the world to continue living by their foolish lies just as they so please, that will verily not happen and so we ought to understand that the world hates the Church & God, only because we reveal to them that they are on the highway to hell. So peace can never be on the terms of every individual in this world because they are each a law to themselves in their broken communion with God i.e. their righteousness of self is not the righteousness of God thanks to the fall to Adam, who relieved himself of the righteousness of God to receive to himself and for his posterity a righteousness of their own (Gen 3:1-6). The reason God put the Judicial Law in place (1Tim 1:8-9), is because from the world’s self-righteousness comes the world’s desire for anarchy and death. It is no wonder that the people of the world are fascinated with substance-abuse which throws them out of the control while near-death experiences proves to be their entertainment because it feeds their appetite for death and anarchy with such a godless rush. It is for reasons such as these that peace can never be on the terms of self-seeking men/women who sabotage what is good; on the contrary peace is on the terms of God’s righteousness and so for peace to exists there is need for truth and revelation of God, which is where the Word of God comes in (Rom 10:17), in tutoring us about the saving merits of the Lord Jesus Christ (John 14:26).

Hebrews 4
12 For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.

2Tim 3
16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;
17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

To conclude, we know from John 1:1-18 that the Word of God, is God i.e. Jesus Christ. We also know from John 4:24 that God is Spirit and from 2Tim 3:16-17 that scripture is God breathed, meaning it is the very life-giving breath of God that gives every believer life in Christ (John 20:22), which was formerly lost for all in Adam (Gen 2:7,17). So I would close by echoing the fact that this peace of God, which am talking about is not going to be brought by the willingness of men but by the mighty nature of God. This peace that God is going to usher into this world is metaphorically described in Isaiah 11: 1-11, which I would strongly advise you to read. The Stump of Jesse or the Root of Jesse in Isaiah 11 bears reference to the Lord Jesus Christ (since the Messiah was prophesied to come from the lineage of David), while the Mountain of the Lord bears reference to the people of God i.e. His Church, which will be firmly established in that day. For those who have a gloomy disposition concerning the end of the world, I would like to tell you that that gloomy disposition only reflects your unbelief because unbelief is never constructive in nature but destructive and God does not share in that fallen nature. It is for this reason when we look at Isaiah 60:20-22 and 1Pet 3:1-13 in the light of Ezek 36:27, we understand that the Lord by His sovereign will shall move His people to delightfully hasten righteousness in world, so as to hasten His coming because the ending is going to be a happy one.

Peace (Luke 10:5-6)!

Deut 4 (Old Testament)
19 “And beware not to lift up your eyes to heaven and see the sun and the moon and the stars, all the host of heaven, and be drawn away and worship them and serve them, those which the LORD your God has allotted to all the peoples under the whole heaven.
20 “But the LORD has taken you and brought you out of the iron furnace, from Egypt, to be a people for His own possession, as today.

Rom 1 (New Testament)
20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.
21 For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 Professing to be wise, they became fools,
23 and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.
24 Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them.
25 For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

The above scripture speaks of God’s sovereignty in reprobation and man’s wilful rebellion against God unto eternal damnation. We ought to understand that though all things are reconciled in Christ (Col 1:16-20), none can come to Jesus unless the father first draws them (Jn 6:44). In this reconciliation, Jesus makes peace by the power of His blood between God and the elect and thus the elect who are called out from this world as peacemakers and sons (Mat 5:9), these rightfully oppose the world, who from their appetite for anarchy are given to abuse their stewardship over the earth by using everything to serve nothing more than themselves.

Yesterday I was unfortunate enough to pull my beloved building dog Hoppit out of the gutter. The reason he jumped in was because he wanted to escape the firecrackers of Diwali. I have heard many Hindus contemplating on the kind of nuisance their festivals are and I do agree with them fully because their festivals showcase a very poor stewardship over the environment. Besides every attempt made to keep Diwali safe, Holi safe, Dahi Handi safe and Ganesh Chaturithy safe has failed badly. I think the main issue with these festivals is the idolatry because these people have exchanged the worship of the living God Almighty with the lies they themselves have fabricated to deceive their own souls into eternal damnation. As an Indian, I believe in talking about all the issue that affect this country and I couldn’t care less about people who are scared about raising important issues out of fear of displeasing the masses. If we want a clean India, we need to deal with all the major factors that are affecting this country and not just the ones which people are OK to talk about.

Those who live in Mumbai will know that at high noon, it is hard to even get a straight 300 meters of visibility, thanks to the smog which is worsening day by day. There was a time you could see the Gateway of India even when you were far-off by ferry but that doesn’t happen today. It said, since 2010, the average Diwali pollution levels have shown very rapid build-up at least seven to eight times, while peak levels have hit ten times the standard. As per a study done by Chest Research Foundation (CRF), Pune, fire-crackers increased the level of sulphur dioxide 200-fold above the safety limits prescribed by World Health Organisation (WHO). This doesn’t only affect us but has a profound impact on birds and animals as well in the area. Such pollution levels happen to trigger asthma attacks in people and cause new cases of asthma with pollutants linked to firecrackers such as:
Sulphur dioxide: Causes wheezing and shortness of breath
Cadium: Can cause anaemia, damage kidneys and can also affect the nervous system
Copper: Irritates the respiratory tract
Lead: Affects the nervous system
Magnesium: Can cause metal fume fever
Nitrate: Can cause mental impairment
Nitrite: Can cause skin problems, eye irritation, and respiratory problems in children

Gen 1 (About our God given stewardship)
28 God blessed them; and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

John 3 (How salvation is holistically dependent on Christ)
18 “He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Rom 5 (How we are restored in Christ from fallen Adam)
17 For if by the transgression of the one, death reigned through the one, much more those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.

If we were to look at Gen 1:28 & Rom 5:17 in the light of Jn 3:18, we understand that the poor failed stewardship of Adam is restored only in Christ, and it is for this reason that nations which were shaped by the Gospel happen to do more for the environment than any other because if truth be told, if you are living for nothing more than yourself then you happen to be robbing yourself of all the hope, life has to offer you in God.

John 12
24 “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.
25 “He who loves his life loses it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it to life eternal.
26 “If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also; if anyone serves Me, the Father will honour him.

Someday we shall understand that the origin of government is not the people but God and that exactly is the issue we have with democracy because though we have laws in place like the ‘Right to Sleep’… a fundamental right, which moved the Government of India to ban firecrackers between 10 pm and 6 am during Diwali, while also having The Central Pollution Board of India ban firecrackers with a decibel level greater than 125 at a distance of 4 meters from the bursting point; though we have such laws in place, nobody follows them because the government in its attempt to appease the masses denies the individual his/her rights and so demonized democracy exercises anarchy and functions as an ochlocracy (mob rule) in infringing upon the rights of the individual.

Mat 22
36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?”
37 And He said to him, ” ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’
38 “This is the great and foremost commandment.
39 “The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’
40 “On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.”

To conclude, the issue with Diwali as it is with many other festivals, which so often infringes upon the law, is that the people do not have God first in their lives and so long as God is not first in their lives, everything they have been given stewardship over, they will use to sinfully satisfy their own appetite. It is no wonder that the Bible teaches in Rom 8:19 that the earth anxiously awaits the revealing of the children of God (Jn1:12-13), who will ascertain their rightful stewardship over the earth in living for God’s glory.
